Hush Glider Camp
Real double-beds in bell tents, ping pong in the barn, a shower under an oak tree, a fireside in the field - outdoor heaven!
About: Hush Glider Camp, named for the barn owl that you might see silently hunting at dawn and dusk, is an acre of peace on a Dark Sky reserve in the South Downs. You can stroll the meadow, head off into the hills and even hit the beach before coming home to sit round the firepit, or crash on the sofa.
There are great country pubs like The Fountain Inn, which is on a short walking loop straight from your tent. If you prefer longer hikes, a walk along the South Downs Way will give you that lovely sense of fresh air drowsiness. Markets and farm shops all through the area give you the chance to pick up fine local produce for a perfect picnic. Hush Glider has two bell tents which are spaced 20 metres apart and make one camp, so you’ll only meet whoever you bring along with you. They share the hot, open-top shower under the oak tree, the indoor kitchen, flushing loo, and the barn, where you’ll find ping pong, board games and a big sofa to stretch out on. There’s also a picnic bench and a firepit if you like to cook and eat al-fresco. The whole area is just north of, and screened from, owner Nicola’s home and her holiday cabin, The Wisp. Aside from welcoming you and dropping off a bottle of fizz to get your stay started, she’ll leave you to enjoy the quiet of the space. Then you can settle in, pop the cork, marvel at the sunset over the oak-lined fields and watch for the hush glider on the wing.
Worth Noting: Bookings are Monday to Friday, or Friday to Monday. You'll have exclusive use of the whole camp. We are within walking distance of pub.
